All cat lovers act like a partner in an abusive relationship who's still making excuses. They attack and bite and ignore and gaslight and we say "no, I love them, this is just the way they are and they love me YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND!"
And I wouldn't have it any other way. I love these little assholes. :)

I was a dog person for 30 years, grew up with dogs etc. Liked cats but thought they didn't really have personalities and interaction like dogs. Shattered that misconception by house/catsitting for my aunts 9 cats while she was away. Then, one day in my mid 30s the CDS installs a kitten under my back deck. The next 7 months I give this outdoor kitty a baller deck-life homebase. Then winter comes, I cant leave my baby outside.
What I immediately noticed from full time cat dadding, was that unlike dogs, this cat really challenged me. In a good way, and I think a really healthy way. I learned a lot about patience, and boundaries, and sharing love not only on your terms but theirs too. I learned not to yell and anger is useless. I learned a whole new level of gentleness and patience, within days. It drastically reshaped and revealed to me better emotional control and a new level of empathy, that transferred to the rest of my life.
I am super grateful and appreciative that cats aren't eager pleasers like dogs. My tabby girl is the greatest teacher I've ever had, and we are best buddies that rivals and supersedes the canine best buds I've had - and I truly loved those boys as well. Cats can be assholes, but people are too - cats have a lot to teach about life and relationships to the right people who need it.

Former dog owner and current cat slave here.. this is so true! Only realised once I had cats that they come in a wide range of personalities.
And cats teach us consent! They love you on their terms and it feels great to have earned that trust. I have had a few friends who were wary of cats come over and they all left with a newfound appreciation of cats.
There is also something very comforting about just watching TV or reading with a cat on your lap. They brought a quiet energy into my home.
I know what you mean about them teaching us patience. It certainly made me less reactive and just accepting about a lot of things.
The little monsters, as I fondly call mine, are also selective listeners and will only do things because they want to, not because you want them to.

u/mooninuranus 16h ago
She was a rescue and the shelter took them before we got her.
Don’t actually know why but gotta assume they knew what they were doing and the only downside is the mice she catches and brings into the house are ALWAYS alive and well so we get to chase round the house catching them.→ More replies (1)42

lmaoo that made me chuckle 😭 that's actually cute (minus the mice running around the house ofc), she must think she's bringing you humans food. I'm glad she's well despite having no teef

EDIT: Holy cow. Can’t believe so many people saw this little guy today. This is Edward. We nicknamed him Special Ed because of the neuro-disorder he was born with. He was abandoned at our local shelter and we couldn’t wait to adopt his sweet little personality. He quickly acclimated to our other three cats and won all our hearts. We had five wonderful years with him before he crossed the rainbow bridge. I still miss him terribly and the goofy stuff he did because of his disorder. We tried to give him the best life possible and it makes me happy I could share him with so many people today!

What an adorable baby, it’s so rare we get to see the entire mouth like this! Being said, you may want to check about the infection in the mouth! It can prevent heart disease for us humans AND cats

Sir this is a crime. You cannot just grab the little man like that and show his little corn kernels to the whole internet. He is plotting your demise as we speak.
10/10 teefers though.
