Question My recently deceased client was hoarding a ton of these Trump goldbacks when she died and I need guidance.

Can anyone suggest a value to associate with these or can anyone tell me if there is a meaningful collectors market for them? I need to assign a value and figure out how to liquidate them (if they’re worth anything) but I’ve never seen a goldback before now. I’m asking here because I’m hoping to get actual feedback and not goldback fanboys telling me they’re worth a fortune. Thanks!

Question Please tell my wife this is fake

She bought it from a random person at a farmers market. She suspects it's real because the person drove a new model Mercedes. It's not magnetic and fathom scratch up, but I just can't fathom any chance it is real under the circumstances.

Question Stacked three troy pounds (1.11kg) in three years. Now what?

Post image

I started stacking gold in 2023 and have been buying one troy ounce every month ever since. After three years, I've accumulated three troy pounds.

I want to keep stacking, but with gold prices where they are now, I don't really want to spend around € 4,000 every month anymore.

If you were in my position, would you:

  • Buy 10 grams every month to stay consistent, or
  • Buy one troy ounce every three months instead?

I'm curious what you would do and why.

Question Is it okay to store my gold like this?

I’ve heard that handling it directly can scratch the gold or cause slight weight loss over time. That said, I enjoy taking it out and holding it, so I’m not a fan of keeping it sealed in plastic cases. What’s your opinion?

203 grams. Left in bleach for 72 hrs, hit it with a butter knife (which caused dents) then tore off the end with a hammer. This is the end result

Face area less than credit card, roughly 7.5cm long and 4.5cm wide. Average thickness id say .7cm at thickest, .4-.5mm at middle and .1-.3 at thinnest (at the top)

Would rather get opinions first then embarrass myself at a jewellers

Question Got scammed $2400

Bought this supposedly 1 oz bar from a pawn shop in Washington state (I live in Texas ) last August for $2400. Was gonna sell it today to make rent and I goto my local coin shop and they use an X-ray on it and it turns out it’s fake.

Now I’ve got to file a police report, and do a ton of paperwork. I doubt I’ll get my money back anytime soon but my receipt says “one ounce of gold” which is legally binding so it’s definitely a felony I’m just not sure they will go after them.

What’s the best way about going with this?

Question Jewelry shop said my gold chain is fake after a magnet test. Could they be wrong?

I recently took a gold chain to a jewelry shop that buys and sells gold and silver.

They tested it with a magnet and told me it wasn’t real gold.

The thing is, my dad has always insisted that the chain is real, so now I’m confused. Is a magnet test enough to determine whether a gold chain is fake?

Also, has anyone had experience with jewelry that was sold as real gold but turned out to be fake?

Should I get a second opinion or have it tested another way?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Found this 14k gold zippo in a clean out, it doesn’t say plated or filled though is stamped 14K and matches some results I’m seeing for a “1958” “engine turned” piece. Before taking it to a shop - is this what finding treasure feels like or fools gold?

Question Why is the U.S. Mint proposing to offer one oz of gold at this enormous price?

Post image
394 Upvotes

Any ideas? Is this common? This seems excessive. They have a silver coin at a similarly elevated price.

https://www.usmint.gov/coins/precious-metal-coins/shop-all/?srule=price-high-to-low&start=0&sz=9

Edit: Assuming that the U.S. Mint isn’t fucking with customers and that they actually know that gold is an important and competitive global monetary commodity, recently becoming the most widely held reserve currency, what are they doing?

I buy old electronics, especially aircraft stuff. I noticed this had a MSRP of $8,000 back in the 80s and for the government’s aircraft situation machines. I can’t tell if the big squares are a coating, but they look thick, and they have identical gold squares on the backs.

Worth scraping? Keep it as cool aircraft / military history?

Question Why are gold prices tanking?

I'm not a short term investor. I understand the fundamentals and especially with US debt the long-term importance of gold. I'm holding, this is a short-term, regionalized thing.

What is the short-term regionalized thing that is happening which is causing gold to decrease (yes, I know it's the iran war, but how is that effecting gold prices?)
