I have been flicking mint seeds in his yard all summer
There is a dangerous driver in my neighborhood. He absolutely flies down my street. There are frequently children playing on the sidewalks and running across the street between houses I’m frequently worried one of them is going to be hit. He also twice this year has blown through the stop sign nearly hitting my car. In April while walking my dog I saw this same car fly through the stop sign and pull into his garage. He may be a terrible driver but he had a beautiful lawn.
So, twice a day, I walk my dog past his house. This has always been the routine but now on the shelf next to the poop bags I have a package of peppermint seeds. As I walk past his house I subtly sprinkle or flick these tiny seeds into his lawn. For those who don’t know mint is a very prolific grower and an aggressive spreader. Even a tiny fragment of root can grow into a new plant. Once roots are in the soil it will continue to multiply until every las bit of root is removed. His once perfect grass has been covered in little plants all summer. It looks like he’s spraying and mowing but not pulling it up by the root so next year he’ll have twice as much.
Edit: Because this has been asked frequently I have tried to get a speed survey or speed bump installed but need 75% approval from the neighborhood and we fund it. Police have promised increased patrols which turns out to have been a single cruiser at 6AM

Had a similar driver in my neighborhood. The guy that lived next to me heard the car coming up the hill one day and rolled a soccer ball into the road in front of his car. The driver swerved too hard and ended up in a ditch with massive vehicle damage from a tree. Tried to convince the responding officer that he was only going 25 mph.

This is exactly what I did. I waited in my driveway and rolled a basketball into the street. He drove a very low vehicle and it absolutely wrecked his front bumper. He got out screaming and threatening while I just stood there smiling. I calmly said "your lucky it wasn't one of our kids around here". We glared each other for a minute and I never saw him on my road again.

Use to have kids riding ATVs along the other side of my back fence, on a church’s property; they were throwing beer bottles and such into people’s yards, and driving any dogs outside crazy at 2:30-3am. Complaints to the cops got a cruiser to sit on the far side of the church’s parking lot from dusk til midnight.

I had a neighbor one time that kept throwing those really cheap bouncy balls (the air filled soccer ball sized ones)
After like 5 or 6 attempts with that my neighbor threw a hammer at the same car that had been speeding by and hit it perfectly dead center of the hood at at least 35mph
That was a fun rest of the day.

Before grass lawns took over (due I suspect to golf becoming popular in the 50's or so), clover lawns were literally the definition of luxury. And they still should be... Much better for the environment, easier to maintain, and they support a more varied ecosystem of insects etc.

Round up was invented and happened to kill clover, so they did a marketing campaign to sway the public into thinking it was a weed. That's what I've heard at least.I'm an idiot, round up kills grass. It may have been the lawn safe variant I was thinking of, but I'm definitely off the mark.

Im doing my yard next month with clover. We bought this house and no one ever did anything with the yard/land it was on. The whole yard is still a gravel building pad. So next month im going to scrape the gravel down to the dirt and seed clover / hard Fescue mixture there and hope we have a nice back yard next spring.

I'm a dirt guy, I've rough-graded many a new-construction yard. Your yard is most likely made up of just enough fill-dirt to hold the construction waste and Corona bottles together. Don't go digging, you won't like what you find.
You don't want dirt anyway. You want soil. They're different things. Dirt is broken down rock and clay, it has no nutritional value, but it does compact and shed water.
Soil is broken down organic matter, and its value is purely nutritional, because it does not compact or shed water. That makes it useless for supporting structures or staying where you put it, but it's necessary for grass to grow.
You need a layer of topsoil. You've got the stable dirt base, the only reason grass isn't growing naturally is the lack of nutrition. Soil, homie. That's the missing piece.

I used to love digging in the dirt of my previous house, it was over 100 years old. Digging in the yard was like an archeological experience. I found bits of pottery, old bottles, a slightly rusted wrench, small tape measure and a toy car (Generic hot wheels type).

Nothing to do with golf. Lawns are popular because of the Tapis Vert at The Palace of Versailles. In the 17th century they planted a massive amount of turf grass because it was a huge waste (and thus showed their elaborate wealth; it takes a lot of work to maintain (the lawn mower wasn't invented until the 19th century) and doesn't provide food). Thus grass became associated with wealth and thus lawns around everyone's home. Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass (the most common variants of lawn grass) are both European. Prior to WW2, clover was mixed in because F and KB struggle with US summers; clover would keep it green instead of turning brown in the heat. But after WW2, pure F and KB lawns became in vogue because it was even harder and more expensive; it meant you could afford special chemical weed killers and fertilizer.

When I moved into my house a few years ago, there was a big patch of dirt where the grass just didn't grow. It was on the north side of the house and spent a lot of time in the shade, so I figured that was the reason. It was pretty ugly though, and my dog would get all muddy when it was wet. I don't have anything resembling a green thumb, but I figured I'd try to spread some clover seed and just see what happened. Fast forward a bit, that whole patch is covered in clover. There's all kinds of pollinators buzzing around, which seemed to attract a lot of birds. After a few seasons, all these cool local wildflowers started popping up, too. I'm guessing the birds seeded my lawn with other plants they'd visited, but I'm not really sure how that works, exactly. The yard looks a little wild, but much more natural and I love seeing all of the birds and pollinators visiting my yard.

We started a burrow for the burrowing owl (an endangered subspecies in FL) lurking around our house back in Aug/Sept 2022. Clover and grass naturally grow together very well.
Compromise on having both things maybe. The lawn will be greener and healthier because clover adds nitrogen back to the soil, and pollinators love the clover flowers

A local company has bred a small clover, Miniclover(R), only 4-5 inches tall and drought-resistant. I'm doing our blueberry patch (1256 bushes) this Fall. Like all clovers it fixes nitrogen, which is the main element blueberry bushes need.

I only recently discovered how aggressive milkweed is once it's established. If OP can hide a plant somewhere, it will haunt their neighbor forever. It amazingly grows a lot faster than grass. A new neighbor decided the previous owner's milkweed had to go and pulled it. Now there is milkweed in their yard all the time. One advantage: monarch butterflies.

We had the same issue when I lived in town except it was a brake and muffler shop at the end of the street. They would come flying down the street as fast as 50 MPH on a residential street. Then slam on the brakes. There were several families with kids living there.
Complaints to the shop and the PD were ignored until they finally hit a kid. He was lucky he survived with relatively minor injuries. The PD finally put an unmarked car out there and started citing them. After a few dozen tickets in a few weeks they finally stopped doing it.

The father of the kid was a Marine SSgt. He went down to the shop and raised so much hell they called the cops. He was tresspassed from the property and ended up sueing them. It was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. They ended up closing about two years later. I dont know if the lawsuit had anything to do with it.

Get liquid fertilizer and put it in s little squirt gun. Fertilizer in random areas. The weed killer doesn't kill the grass but patches will be far more healthy than others and look odd

Watch for the milkweed since it's toxic, but dandelion also works great. There's a woman in my neighborhood that's an absolute nightmare (calls the policy for people walking on the sidewalk in front of her house or something similar) so several people blow dandelion seeds all over her lawn and rocks, usually right next to her plethora of signs. She calls the police quite frequently, but it's not illegal at all.

I once dumped 40lbs of bird seed on a neighbors lawn over a three night period. Should have seen the swarms of birds and then the resulting weeds. I did it because he would mow his lawn two times a week. First with a rider-both directions, then push mower in both directions, then leafblow for hours then would have his family on hands and knees pulling weeds. We talked to him about the noise for 6 hrs on end two times a week. He didn’t change. So… bird seed

When I was a kid, there was someone who liked speeding up and down our block too. Finally my next door neighbor who was a little drunk at the time and had kids just a few years younger than myself, steps into the street forcing the driver to stop. He then goes to the driver’s door and yells “MY KIDS ARE OUT HERE” as he pulls the driver out through the window and proceeds to beat him senseless.

I have a story of triumph and government in action that will warm your heart. I used to live on a neighborhood street that people liked to use as a 'shortcut'. It was very much the kind of place where kids (one deaf) played in the street, but cars would go through the 25 mph zone doing 50+. Well, one day the county put in speed humps due to the residents' complaints.
At least once a day for like a month an inconsiderate driver would literally go airborne on the hump in front of my house (it was the closest hump to a bigger road). And I mean literally airborne, a few of them landed so hard they had to be towed away. I'd see them shooting sparks and bits of muffler daily. There are still gouges in the asphalt over an inch deep from all the cars bottoming out. Nobody speeds there anymore.

We had a neighbor that had built a 2 story deck off the back of their home. They also had 2 dogs that would stay on the upper part of deck and bark at everyone in the yards. The deck was against HOA, but because the homeowner was a top selling agent in the development, they approved it. During construction of it, at night, we would flick spoonfuls of morning glory ivy seeds over our fence into the base building of deck.

My parents had a crabby old coot as a next door neighbor and his front lawn was his life. He was just awful to live next to. Millions of complaints about everything. He would re-seed every spring. One spring he bought a bag of seed that had somehow gotten chive seeds mixed into it. His lawn reeked every time he mowed for several seasons only ending with the removal of his whole front lawn and re-sodding.

Check out bad apple seed bombs, they have a wide selection of plants that root deep and help prevent erosion. Mint is just one of many plants that stop erosion.
