I love the group tackle AFTER they were sure it wasn’t gonna blow 🤣

2.0k

u/Ht_TX 13h ago

Would’ve been 15 yards in an NFL game for that hit. Entirely unnecessary, dude wasn’t running anywhere, he was walking off angrily saying shit like ‘These fucking guys have me standing here for 40 minutes over some fucking clo…..’ then got leveled. Could’ve just as easily grabbed his arm and nothing would’ve happened.

u/Voodoo-Chyld 13h ago

But then how can they high-five each other back at the station for attacking someone like that?

323

u/StarMaterial1496 13h ago

High-fives, pats on the back, (for the cameras, on the ass later) personalized plaques for their heroic actions etc.

u/ElmerChud1 13h ago

The amount of "good job boys" I hear at the end of body cam footage after beating someone senseless pisses me off.

What gets me are the folks late to the party that want to get in the dogpile with a couple of cheap shoves, elbows, knees, punches etc etc smh

23

u/The_Nepenthe 9h ago

I personally "love" it when they sit like 2-6 people on top of someone and demand their hands which they've now buried under 200-900lb.

Easy way they can keep hitting someone for awhile and not get called on it, and slap a resisting charge.

And you know that's part of the problem with the world. Too many people hearing "good job" undeservedly. What if we just called everybody's effort mid unless it was actually exceptional.

so this guy actually came out and spoke on it later. he was fully convinced it wasnt a bomb. they had the roads blocked off for hours, he was fed up with it, and took matters to his own hands

58

u/Polenicus 11h ago

I worked security at a local college when we had a bomb threat at one of the bus stops. Was a metal cannister, made up to look like an explosive device, and a threat phoned in.

Didn't take them hours to resolve. They had a robot in, dismantled the bus stop shelter to get at it safely, had it in the containment vessel and 'detonated' it (It was full of soup)

We had the area secured, too. No one was gonna just wander up and dump out the soup.

And our operation? Was a gong show. As Campus Security, We were NOT properly trained to deal with this. But the local police covered our slack.

What were these jokers doing? Why wasn't traffic rerouted? Why wasn't the perimeter secured?

19

u/TheDrummerMB 9h ago

Busy downtowns are notoriously harder to manager than college campuses.

This is where, if police operated like normal human beings, they would not treat the man who risked his own safety to solve the problem like a human. But alas, the system is built this way to stifle freedom and actual heroes and turn them into criminals for no reason.

Get the fuck out of the way. If you're scared for your life, stand back and let someone who isn't take care of it so everyone can move on with their day and thousands of dollars of taxpayer money isn't being wasted.

76

u/FlamingoVisible1947 11h ago

I mean you don't know how powerful a potential explosive is, he definitely didn't just put his own safety at risk.

14

u/TstclrCncr 8h ago

To add from experience. Evidence collection.

If it does turn out to be real we're trying to preserve evidence to be able to try and track the maker or to make a stronger case against them.

37

u/bingle-cowabungle 11h ago

Which doesn't make the tackle from behind okay...

9

u/niceguy191 6h ago

Bit of a side tangent, but I see this sort of comment that you replied to all the time and it drives me nuts. Refuting one particular point doesn't mean you don't agree with the rest of it. In fact, often it's because you do agree with the rest of it and want to eliminate the one inaccuracy so the point can still stand unhindered.

Has reading comprehension really taken such a dive?

→ More replies (1)

35

u/HungrySwimmer26 11h ago

Okay, I’ll play devils advocate here just to say regardless of if the guy is a “hero” because he’s willing to see if it’s a bomb, response teams are right to be pissed because 1. It puts lives in danger unnecessarily 2. Could have resulted in greater damage to surrounding infrastructure and 3. Didn’t follow protocols designed for this exact situation

Yes the processes is slow and disruptive but they have to deal with it properly- as is the general expectation from the public, if they didn’t and it goes wrong, what do you think the the consequence is?

Two things are true here, the police were wrong to use excessive force on him and he acted like a child throwing a tantrum, all because emergency services were doing there jobs correctly and he didn’t want to wait for whatever reason. In my eyes that doesn’t make him a hero just an idiot

17

u/sembias 10h ago

Being "pissed" is not an excuse for police brutality. Not when you're a fucking professional making good money with a pension - oh, and a license to kill whoever you want.

Modern policing is anything but professional.

10

u/WhoPoopedMyPants420 6h ago

Being "pissed" is not an excuse for police brutality.

I love when people start their replies with something that 100% confirms they did not read the comment they're replying to.

"It's not an excuse tho" "YEAH BUT WHAT HE DID IS NOT AN EXCUSE!!!!!"

7

u/HoneydewMaleficent71 10h ago

How would the police know it wasn't him that sent the threat and now he's putting his finger prints on the bag to contaminate the evidence? Plus all the rules and protocols are there so when suspects are being charged they can use evidence that can hold up at court plus It's been found out in a just and fair process. That guy is a fussy baby, the people in uniform who choose to put their lives at risk are heroes.

8

u/Gladwulf 9h ago

Assaulting him after he contaminated evidence doesn't decontaminate though.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Kooky_Win4720 9h ago edited 9h ago

No one thinks the guy was at all in the right.

They think that the cops had no reason to likely cause a permanent injury to someone who was clearly not dangerous and was surrounded and wasn't fleeing and would have almost certainly just let them handcuff him. The guy was a fussy baby and should be treated like a fussy baby. The cops acted like violent criminals and should be treated like violent criminals.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Man goes up deciding hes going to just dump the bag that could of set it off if it where a bomb destroying property and possibly killing or injuring people in the surrounding area. This man wasnt a hero hes a fuckin moron yes the tackle was unnecessary but he doenst just get to run up to a scene and do what he wants because hes annoyed they kept him waiting.

Setting here talking about tax dollars wasted if that was a bomb and it did go off who do you think is going to pay for all the damage the tax payers. That is why we have something called the BOMB SQUAD to handle these situations instead of some random guy who just runs up not knowing a thing about what he is doing handle it. Some things are more important than you getting home to watch your tv show on time.

He was not a hero he was a idiot risking people's lives. He may have be convinced that wasn't a bomb. But bomb disposal needs to treet it like one because if they don't and it is that will result in someone dieing.

7

u/ForrestCFB 11h ago

Him being arrested makes sense, because he not only put his own life in danger but also others.

But the tackle was VERY unnecessary, simply grabbing his arm would have been more than enough, and you could always escalate from there.

9

100%. These types of things are basically live training exercises for these teams. They technically still didn't *know* there was no explosive device in the bag, as it could have been small or in the pocket of the bag, but somehow they *knew* enough to tackle the guy to the ground right beside the bag + contents.

35

u/BadMunky82 13h ago edited 12h ago

Can’t upvote this enough. Contempt of Cop is real

10

u/MZ603 7h ago

Yeah. I was a dick to one in a neighboring town when I was in high school. Made him call another cop from another town if he was going to search my car. The other cop (from my town) showed up, and I let the first cop start searching my car. I shot the shit with the cop from my town, and asked him, "I can stop this at any time, right? That's what the paper I just signed said." He said "yes". So then I stopped the first cop. I was being an ass, but I knew I didn't have anything and the cop was on a power trip.

Next time the first cop saw me driving, he pulled me over for going less than 5 miles per hour over the speed limit. First thing he said, was "I got you", & he made sure to show up to court.

That cop was a known piece of shit. A year or two later he was booted from the three person department and arrested for soliciting a minor in his cop car.

why they do that

67

u/Preeng 13h ago

Because they were embarrassed and these manchildren couldn't handle it.

19

u/Fun-Benefit116 11h ago

Why would they be embarrassed? You seriously think bomb squads believe every single thing they check is a bomb? Are you that dumb? They were being safe and trying to make sure there wasn't a bomb and this guy went up and risked his and other lives by doing what he did. He didn't embarrass anyone except maybe himself.

Do you think bomb squads are embarrassed when they check something out and ends up not being a bomb? Because you seem dumb enough to actually think that...

11

u/yawara25 10h ago

Was it really necessary for 3 of them to run up and tackle him like that though?

6

u/wstx3434 6h ago

They don't know who the fuck he is. Random dudes ran up in a cringe scene dumping a backpack out that COULD have been explosive.

He's a jackass who potentially could have potentially done a lot of damage.

I'm not pro cop being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive, but if some looney toon had the balls to swarm a bag the bomb squad was ensuring weren't explosives I would get his down no matter the force.

it is reckless but if anything he should’ve been tackled as soon as he got up to the bag. afterwards when he is walking away.. no tackle necessary

24

u/Excellent_Condition 13h ago

The tackle was totally unnecessary, and the fact that they pinned his arms so he couldn't break his fall makes it worse. I get needing to immobilize someone so they can't fight and injure the cops, but that should only happen if the person is actually trying to fight.

I disagree about tackling him when he got to the bag though; if they thought it was dangerous they shouldn't have run in when he reached it. All that would do would expose them to injury when he could just have easily been arrested after he finished emptying the bag.

As usual on reddit OP's title is...inaccurate.

He says he woke up that morning, and saw TV coverage of the suspicious bag and decided if it’s bomb, he wanted to be a hero.

"As soon as I saw that, I’m like, I’m going to go save the day, take one for the team and jump on it or discard it in the river because it’s been going on for two to three hours," he said.

Less 'fed up with waiting' and more 'insane bored guy with nothing better to do.'

There's an interview here with the bicyclist:

u/reluctantseal 11h ago edited 6h ago

The article doesn't expand on it, but he does have mental health issues.

He said he tends to be very reactive and impulsive to what he sees on TV. When the news reported a suspicious package, he was compelled to respond and try to be a hero.

I'm not sure what happened to him after this other than the charges were dropped. Hopefully he has someone who cares to keep an eye on him so he doesn't get into any more dangerous situations.

Edit: I think this came across as me defending him in some way, but I think it's relevant to know that this wasn't just someone being impatient or purposefully endangering others. He still shouldn't have done it and I fully agree he needed to be detained, at least to figure out why he behaved so bizarrely.

Every time this video is posted on Reddit or elsewhere, this guy (the bicyclist) is the idiot who receives the praise and in contrast results in law enforcement actually doing something right getting hated on.

So in other words, the suicidal idiot who thought he would be a hero like in a fiction novel but in reality could’ve leveled half a street because he knew nothing about bombs is the guy all the cop haters praise, and that tells you a lot about them.

Meanwhile, the actual story is that a person in a business nearby called a suspicious backpack in and the police did their job and were handling the situation.

It’s also telling that this comment has 37 upvotes and the Redditors bashing police have thousands.

Imagine if he just got a block from his house on his bike and he really had to blow up his bathroom, but was deprived of his personal throne... This seems very reasonable in that scenario. I'm not going to the god damn CVS!

37

u/Dontshipmebro 13h ago

"sorry i took out an entire city block, I really had to take a shit"

The end doesnt justify risking potentially dozens of lives.

10

u/AzureSubaru 10h ago

The amount of a higher powered explosive like C4 (since it has like 1.5x the power of tnt) would be more than would fit in a backpack. A standard block of c4 is about 1.25lb and would only cause significant damage in a 1 meter radius. A backpack of them would probably be like 4 blocks of c4

u/SecondAccountIsBest 9h ago

Thanks for being the first person to mention this on this thread. People are acting like there's a thermonuclear device in here (which while possible is extremely unlikely without being stopped way before it got to this point)

If they actually have the literal bomb squad out, maybe just give them a bit. There really isn't a reason that would justify potentially blowing up a city block because of impatience

38

u/Sure_Eye9025 12h ago

A quick search of the case shows he the bomb investigation on the news and rushed down there as he wanted to 'play superhero'. Apparently told officers he wanted to 'take one for the team' and prevent someone else getting blown up and thought it would be a fastpass to heaven because a 'higher power' told him so

Dude was just a nutjob

14

u/voyaging 11h ago

I wonder if he’s making up his story retroactively because it definitely seems more like he opened it angrily

4

u/Gloomy_Cress9344 9h ago

It can also be that he's disappointed that there's no bomb and can't really play the hero

The problem is, there's a situation of the event being unlikely, but with very serious consequences.

They are taking precautions, because if they make a mistake or have a bomb go off just once in their career, they, and everyone around them, dies.

Extreme caution is warranted.

24

u/Party_Syrup_3035 10h ago

I feel insane reading these comments. It could have been a bomb and dipshit runs in and empties a sack and everyone thinks he's awesome, but if it blows up and he kills himself and more?

Like yeah, okay, it's most likely not a bomb but like what does it cost you to be right and wrong? How important are the literal minutes you lose by waiting? Same mentality as road rage to me. Saving seconds and acting like a moron.

14

u/Skodami 10h ago

If he blew up, he would have been posted on r/Whatcouldgowrong or r/Darwinawards

Wild how different the comments would be if bro had blown himself sky high just out of impatience 😂

41

u/Bitter_Split5508 11h ago

He wasn't even impatient. As another commenter pointed out: guy has mental health issue and wanted to throw himself on the bomb to save the city.

12

u/RunningEscaping 9h ago

God forbid a fella wants to go out with a bang protecting the city, only to be seen in another country a few months later by his loving and trusted butler who thought he was dead. Finally giving the city the hero it needs, while disappearing into the sunset.

Tired of seeing this same incorrect title on this video. The guy was mentally unstable, bordering suicidal. He saw the TV news report about it and decided to play superhero. He wasn't waiting at all.

It easily could've gone the other way

200

u/bobafootfetish_ 14h ago

You mean he would have tackled from the right instead of the left? Yeah I can see that

56

u/No_Guarantee_8272 14h ago

I mean he could've set the "bomb" off and blew himself and who knows what else sky high. The "bomb" could've been dirty and spread something across the whole area. There's professionals and protocols for a reason. Just because there was no bomb this time, does not make his actions okay.

21

u/Normal-Tadpole-4833 14h ago

but it makes the cops actions ok?? what if he had a bomb on them?? stupid cop decisions one of the first things I learned In the Academy was never rush to your death

Yes. Countries would spend millions on a dirty bomb just to leave it in a backpack on a random street.

13

u/a_literal_idiot_616 12h ago

...or terrorists?

and it doesn cost millions

13

u/LividVermicelli9689 13h ago

Doesn't take millions to make a "dirty bomb." You could theoretically make one in your garage right now if you had the know-how and patience.

u/Goosepond01 13h ago

The lack of critical reasoning is sometimes baffling.

Do you think the job of the bomb squad is to just rattle around the potential bomb to find out if it is a bomb?

Their job is to do it safely, with no casualties and as limited amount of damage as possible, this obviously isn't it.

Honestly it's about as silly as saying that a pilot doing a nosedive on a runway is a better pilot because he got on the ground quicker.

16

The comment section here is truly interesting. Siding with a guy, who endangered an entire city block just cause a cop tackled him.

You focus on the optics, not on how incredibly reckless his behavior was.

Especially since the interview with him has shown the guy genuinely came into there just to have his moment as a hero, no other reason.

If that dude would have ducked at the right time it would have fucked that tacklers world up. Wish he would have.

I used to pull this on people in football. Everyone wants to clobber the little guy. So when you see them coming full speed with malice in their eyes, just kneel down at the last second. Then they're the one's hurting.

7

u/aoi_ito 13h ago edited 13h ago

I don't support this at all, it was extremely reckless. What if it was actually a bomb? Bro's intestines would have been dangling from the power lines.
