r/AmIOverreacting Moderator Applications

We're looking to add a few moderators to the team.

This isn't a position for someone looking to collect another subreddit or immediately start making policy decisions. New moderators begin by learning how we moderate, working through our training process, and demonstrating consistent judgment before taking on additional responsibilities.

We're intentionally searching for long-term fit rather than immediate permissions. We'd rather spend time training someone who communicates well, exercises good judgment, and enjoys working as part of a team than hand out broad permissions on day one. We require the use of Discord for ongoing team communication.

If that sounds like the kind of team you'd like to be part of, send us a Modmail answering the following:

  1. Are you at least 18 years old?
  2. What time zone are you in, and when are you generally available to moderate?
  3. Tell us about your moderation experience. For each subreddit you've moderated, please include:
    • The subreddit
    • Approximately how long you moderated there
    • Whether you're still on the team
    • Approximately how large the community was
    • What your day-to-day moderation responsibilities were
  4. Why are you interested in joining the r/AmIOverreacting moderation team?
  5. Every moderation team has its own philosophy and standards. Are you comfortable setting aside your personal preferences to consistently enforce our rules, Reddit's Content Policy, and team decisions—even if you might have made a different call yourself?
  6. Choose ONE of the following:
    • Tell us about one of the most difficult moderation decisions you've had to make. What made it difficult, and how did you ultimately handle it?
    • After reading our subreddit rules, tell us which rule you think requires the most moderator judgment to enforce, and why.
  7. New moderators complete training and initially receive limited permissions while they learn our processes. Are you comfortable with that?
  8. Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We welcome applicants from all time zones and are primarily looking for moderators who are reliable, communicate well, and are interested in helping with the day-to-day work of keeping the community running.

Please Do Not DM Moderators — Use Modmail Instead

Hi everyone,

We want to remind all members that you should not send direct messages (DMs) or chat requests to individual moderators regarding subreddit issues.

Please use Modmail for all moderator communication.

Whether you have:

  • Questions about a post removal
  • Concerns about another user
  • Appeals for bans or warnings
  • Suggestions for the subreddit
  • General moderation questions

Modmail is the correct and only appropriate way to contact the moderation team.

Why We Require Modmail

1. The entire mod team can see your message
Using Modmail ensures that all moderators have access to your concern, which allows for faster and more consistent responses.

2. Better accountability and transparency
Modmail keeps a shared record of communication so moderators can review past conversations and make informed decisions.

3. Prevents delays
Individual moderators may be offline, busy, or unavailable. A DM to one moderator may go unanswered, while Modmail allows any available moderator to respond.

4. Protects moderator privacy
Moderators volunteer their time and should not be contacted through personal inboxes or chat for subreddit matters.

5. Ensures fair moderation
When all communication happens through Modmail, decisions are made collectively rather than through one-on-one conversations.

Messages Sent via DM or Chat May Be Ignored

If you contact moderators directly about subreddit issues, you may be redirected to Modmail or receive no response at all. If you continue to ignore this, mod action may be taken (up to and including banning).

How to Send Modmail

You can contact the moderation team here:
https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/AmIOverreacting

Thank you for helping us keep communication organized and efficient.

🎲 miscellaneous AIO for being upset that my landlord hasn’t cashed my last 3 rent checks?

Post image
5.1k Upvotes

Everything is kind of laid out in my message but this is the second time now that I’ve had multiple rent checks sent without being deposited. I try not to keep 2-3x monthly expenses in my checking account as I’d rather it be in my HYSA or tied into my investment portfolio.

For context, we live in a community of town homes that is managed by a real estate agent. The last time I brought this up we were told “the bookkeeper handles the checks and does not always get to the bank in a timely fashion.”

Am I overreacting?

Edit: Lots of comments about overspending lol. I’m only worried about a check bouncing in the event that they stack my rent checks and cash anywhere from $12-14k at once. Keeping 2-3x monthly expenses in a checking account at most is fairly common but this forces me to keep in excess of $15k in my checking.

Am I (23F) overreacting for thinking this is disrespectful? I don't think he knows how anti generative ai I am but other than that I think this is still disrespectful. He has the talent of turning any conversation about my weight already, and he genuinely thought this was funny and expected me to laugh along. AIO, like, am I too sensitive for not finding this funny and actually a bit rude?

👥 friendship AIO for not wanting to give my a former friend money for baby formula

Post image
426 Upvotes

Hello, I had an old friend the other day call me asking for $25 for baby formula, he asked for $20 for the same thing about a month ago and that would be the last time I lend him money. At the end of 2025 and beginning of 2026 he was asking money from me and I had given him over $200, this was my reason for telling me no, he only ever calls me for money or a ride . He eventually move in with his baby mama and the 2 kids he had no idea about, and in 2026 they had another baby who was born in March. So I felt like that was completely his fault doing that willingly. Back to the main issue, then he called my roommate asking for money, and that triggered something in me, I crossed my own boundary and caved, and sent a text message to him which now I feel ashamed for, and $25. I’ve been feeling terrible all day and I have been feeling like a bad person for sending that text , and that I am inherently selfish for not wanting to give him money for baby formula, because I know he’s down on his luck, he has go pay child support, the only place he can stay is at his baby mamas who for all I know does not allow him to text or call us when she’s home. I feel awful but it’s can’t help but acknowledge he put himself in this hole and I can’t be his bank forever. what are your thoughts ?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO My mom just won’t leave me alone about giving birth.

I’m 37 weeks pregnant and my mom WILL NOT just leave me alone she’s been continuously demanding that she is to be in the labor and delivery room and that she’s the first one i contact when i go into labor. i get up to atleast one or 2 text messages a day to her insisting this and if i try telling her slightly i don’t want her there she completely blows up. and i know a-lot of people are going to tell me she’s my mom and she’s just trying to be there for me but i wasn’t even raised by my mom and she was rarely even there for me when i did need her as a child so why swoop in now and be completely overbearing and make my decisions yours? AIO for being annoyed and stressed out over this and just wishing she would stop and accept the fact she can come see the baby AFTER she’s born just like everyone else

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for being upset my IL’s expect my husband to dog sit for them 2 weeks before my due date?

My husband and I are expecting our first child who is due in late November. My IL’s planned a vacation for their anniversary the second week of November for a week. They have told my husband they expect him to dog sit for them because no one else can.

Usually when there’s no one to watch him between the three siblings, they board their dog. Their dog has aggressive behaviors towards other dogs, so he usually requires special accommodations at boarding facilities. These accommodations usually come with a higher price tag that IL’s don’t want to pay. To make matters worse, the dog has a growth on their chest and leg issues that they refuse to get veterinary care for because it “costs too much” and “he’s not in any pain”.

Neither of my SILs can’t watch him because one lives abroad while the other is on the other side of the country and has work commitments. My IL’s keep trying to guilt my husband to downplay how far their house is (2 hours away). We’re both upset about it and keep telling them no. They’re acting like we are the villains because we’re ruining their 40th wedding anniversary. They say we’re overreacting because we still have 2 weeks to go before the baby is due.

Edit: Their dog cannot come to our house because we have a cat and a dog. He’s never been introduced to a cat before, but we know 100% he will be aggressive towards our dog.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for breaking up with my ex after she told me it was inappropriate for my sister to give me a back massage

My ex and I were together for over a year but the relationship had become extremely toxic. She would constantly give me the silent treatment, be verbally abusive and make passive-aggressive comments about my friends / family.
I knew it needed to end when I told her that my little sister occasionally gives me back massages after I come home from work or the gym. She told me how it was “creepy” and that nobody she knew would do something like that.

I was genuinely confused, so I asked her what was wrong with me getting a back massage from my sister. She said it was “super inappropriate” because we were both past “the age of puberty” and that my sister shouldn’t be doing that for me.
I was baffled. I hated the fact I had to even tell her this… but I explained how we’re both fully clothed and that she’s literally just standing or pressing on my back. For context, I’m 25 and my sister is 16.
What really disturbed me was the way she framed something I saw as completely innocent. It made me feel like she was sexualizing something that I had never viewed sexually in any way, and I knew I couldn’t look at her the same afterwards.

We were actually away together at an Airbnb when this happened. She noticed I had become distant and came over and sat on my lap, asking what was wrong. When I confronted her about what she had said, she became extremely defensive.
I told her that she had portrayed me like some kind of creep and had introduced a sexual implication into something completely innocent. She vehemently denied it. I told her when you use words like “inappropriate” “creepy” and specifically bring up puberty, what exactly do you expect me to assume?”
She then started crying denied ever saying it like that and completely changed the subject to an argument we’d had four months earlier.

At that point, I was done. After everything else that had happened in the relationship, this was the final straw for me. It wasn’t simply that she found the interaction unusual, it was the way she framed it, and then denied the implications of the words she had used when I confronted her about it. I initiated the break up once we came home and she did not react well to it blocked me on everything and told me to never contact her and if I do she’ll contact the police ( like wtf?!!) anyways it’s been close to a year since we broke up and she been trying to contact me for the last 2-3 months by email / text / calls I’ve ignored every single attempt

Was I wrong for feeling that way?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO - My (35m) girlfriend (37f) sent nudes to another man for $

This morning I opened the Photos app and discovered that my girlfriend had taken 10+ nude photos of herself. About an hour later, there were more. She had accidentally saved them to our shared photo album, which is how I saw them.

I confronted her about it over lunch. She became defensive and argumentative, and eventually told me she had done it for money.

We haven’t had much time to discuss the details yet (our conversation was only about 30 minutes), but this is what I’ve gathered so far:

It was someone she already knew.

She says she’s not attracted to him and it was purely for money / attention.

She says she only sent him one photo. But nudes taken at 10pm and then more at 11pm?

She showed me the Zelle transaction, so I know she received money.

As far as I can tell, she had no intention of telling me about it before, during, or after it happened.

She has never sent me intimate photos herself.

I’m struggling with how to categorize this. I understand that people can have different boundaries around what constitutes cheating. For me, the biggest issue isn’t necessarily whether she was attracted to the guy. It’s that she made the decision to send an intimate photo of herself to another man in exchange for money and apparently intended to keep it from me.

So, if your SO sent an intimate photo to someone else for money without discussing it with you beforehand, would you consider that cheating?

Or would you consider it a different kind of relationship/boundary violation?

I’m genuinely looking for outside perspectives, especially from people who have been in similar situations.

❤️‍🩹 relationship am i overreacting for feeling disrespected by my girlfriend while trying to plan her birthday trip?

i’m (23F) and my girlfriend is (24F). her birthday is coming up, and she wants to go on a cruise. she basically wants me to do all the planning, so today i finally started looking into everything. while we were on the phone, i was going over prices, room options, asking if she wanted an interior or ocean view, and explaining what i thought was worth it. i was genuinely just trying to make sure she got the birthday trip she wanted.

the entire time, her responses were mostly “what?” and silence. i honestly thought she was falling asleep because she wasn’t really responding to anything i was saying and seemed uninterested and not engaged. i even said we could just talk about it later because she seemed tired, but she said she was wide awake.

then she got hostile and said, “i guess you’ve never planned a trip before, all i need to know is what to pay for, you should be telling me what to do.” i found that extremely rude and ungrateful, especially because i was literally doing what she asked me to do and trying to help. her tone the whole time was extremely off putting and passive.

i eventually got quiet and told her we could talk later because i was irritated. once i hung up, she texted me, “it’s okay. i don’t want to go anymore. i’ll do something small here. thanks for helping.”

am i overreacting for feeling like she was being ungrateful and getting upset over the way she was treating me?

👥 friendship AIO for leaving my friend’s birthday dinner after she told everyone how much money I make?

I’m 27M and this happened last weekend. I still cant tell if I made it into a bigger thing than it needed to be.

One of my friends had a birthday dinner at a nicer restaurant. There was 8 of us and I knew most of the group, but a couple were her coworkers who I’d never met before.

Everything was normal until we started talking about apartments and how insane rent has gotten. One of her coworkers asked what I did for work and I gave a pretty vague answer cause I honestly hate talking about work outside of work.

My friend suddenly goes “oh please, you can tell them, you make stupid money.”

I laughed cause I thought she was joking and tried to move on.

Then she actually said roughly what I make.

Like an actual number lol.

It got awkward pretty quick. One guy made a joke about me paying for dinner and someone else asked how I could afford my apartment. I was getting pretty annoyed but didnt wanna cause a scene at her birthday so I just said something like “can we not do this?”

She rolled her eyes and was like “why are you being weird about it? nobody cares”

That honestly pissed me off more than the original comment. If nobody cares then why announce it??

I went to the bathroom, came back and sat there for maybe another 10 mins and realized I wasnt enjoying myself anymore. Told the person next to me I was heading out, paid for my food at the front and left.

My friend texted me later saying I embarrassed her by just disappearing from her birthday dinner and that I could of pulled her aside instead of “making a statement.” Like girl tf??

I told her I specifically DIDNT make a statement. I didnt argue with her, didnt announce I was leaving or ask anyone to take sides. I literally just left. Now two people from the dinner have messaged me saying she was drunk and im taking it way too seriously.

I agree leaving was maybe a little dramatic but idk, telling a table full of people what someone earns is just such a weird thing to do. Especially when they clearly tried changing the subject.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO: Why are husbands the most resistant difficult people to exist?

For context he woke me up by turning on the light when he got home from work at 3am with our bedroom door open. The next day I politely asked that he close the door before turning on the light when he gets home so I don’t wake up. I keep it open so our dog can get water as he needs and more importantly in case our kiddo wakes up in the middle of the night. You know what he said? He said no bc he always does that and it rarely ever wakes me up. I was like this isn’t a big favor, you do close the door anyways it’s just switching the order in which you do it so I don’t wake up. I hate being woken up. Still rejected completely. Smh. I basically said I do this for him when I get home in the day and he’s sleeping to not wake him up. And then I said any other husband would honor the request. Probably a bit much but like cmon why does this have to be an argument? I’d like to hear from other husbands on here if they would also reject this. Am I overreacting? Am I in the wrong? Also he went to work and its been about 4 hours and no sorry text from him! This will probably linger until he decides to come up to me and be like “you done?” as if he did nothing.

🏘️ neighbor/local AIO Homeless next door squatter took a swim in my pool

The property next to mine was empty for ages, nothing happening until this winter. I thought new people had moved in because a dog started barking all night, howling until early morning. It was winter, and my fence is 12 feet high, so I couldn't see their yard. As it got hotter, the smell started... I didn't know if it was a dead animal, and the flies became a problem, along with the smell of poop and decay.

So, I decided to peek over the fence, and there was the dog, chained up with no food or water, next to its own pile of poop. It's a terrible sight. The garbage piling up also started to smell. I then called animal control about the dog and code enforcement about the feces and garbage, saying it was a public health hazard. I'm not sure if anything was done; the dog still cries sometimes, but not as often. They've started burning the garbage to make room for more, and the fumes are now an issue.

Today, one of them decided to hop the fence and take a swim/wash in my pool. I called the cops, and they found her on the next street, where she said she was homeless and needed to wash herself. She has no electricity or water at the property. Great, thanks for putting your dirt in my water. I feel so violated. Not only did she do that, but she tried to open my house door and looked through the windows! Caught on camera.

The police gave her a warning since I didn't press charges. I will, next time. Now, I'm scared to live here with my kids. What if she gets angry now and burns my house down while I'm sleeping, knowing she's literally right next door squatting in this house! The owner probably doesn't know, and it would be a long time before anyone could kick her out with NY laws. I'm ready to move.

I'd like to add, I have contacted codes and animal control probably a dozen times.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for being upset that my cousin choose to voice out his unhappiness at me for my choice of friends on my 21st birthday?

Thumbnail

TLDR, i invited my friend who is his ex that he cheated on to my 21st party as she is a close friend of mine. Their break up was very messy, she made him face consequences of his own actions basically so now he can’t stand her.

EDIT:
They broke up 1.5 years ago and have now both moved on in their own relationships with their own partners. My cousin is now engaged to the girl he cheated with.

On the morning of my 21st Birthday this year, he sent me this long ass text asking me to uninvite her and basically choose him over her. Mind you, man has never chosen me or anything. The ex treats me better than he treats me.

All of days, he decided to choose my birthday to send it. I have posted this on [r/AITAH](r/AITAH) and there have been mixed responses ranging from NTA to YTA which i also fully respect all responses be it good or bad if anything. But for him to do this to me on my 21st birthday??? I have strong urges to go feral and just beat him up.

To clarify, I am perfectly okay with him having issues with me. What I am extremely upset with is that he choose my birthday to do this. How could he disrespect me like that? I was so looking forward to my 21st birthday and he ruined it by sending it in the MORNING of my birthday. Ruined my day really.

Requested to talk to him in person to clear the air and his only response was that they’re chill so there is actually no air to clear. Like huh? You send me a 700 word paragraph only then to tell me you’re chill? I don’t get you. Really infuriating.

⚕️ health AIO for feeling violated and wanting to report this woman?

AIO? for context i’m 33,F and am currently in a nursing home, transferred from the hospital after surgery to heal/wait for my next surgery.

i currently cannot walk and am required to wear a diaper incase i cannot make it to the bathroom in time, getting out of bed and into my chair, taking off the legs of the chair, going into the bathroom, transferring from chair to toilet etc. sometimes i cannot make it even to the chair because it’s too out of reach for me to get too, which is what happened the other night.

i pressed the call button for the aide to change me and she came with the supplies to do so, but asked me if i wanted her to use one of my personal wipes instead of the facilities towels which i said sure.

now this is the part where im not sure if im over reacting or not. while she was using the wipe, she stuck her fingers inside my vagina with it.

i didn’t say anything because it was the first time anyone had used a wipe on me here and maybe it was standard procedure but i didn’t like it, and after talking to my roommate who’s been here for a few years vs me who has only just got here, i feel even more confused.

she told me that’s not normal and that particular aide is known to be sort of weird and creepy but that she has never heard of her assaulting anyone, if it’s even considered assault? i don’t know i’m very confused right now.

so now i don’t know if i should report her to the director or supervisor or whoever i would even report her to or if im just overreacting to someone who’s just trying to do their job or if she was intentionally pushing a boundary? please help if im OR or not for feeling weird and not wanting her to touch me again?

edit since a few people have brought it up, i only peed and this was the first time after showering so zero chance i had any poop in my vagina and i do know how to clean myself just because i can’t walk right now doesn’t mean im incapable of wiping my ass lol thank you all for the concern i have asked to speak to the director and now will just be waiting until she pops in my room so i can give a report.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO over what my boyfriend said to me?

I (21F) have been with my boyfriend for 3 years. Recently, things have felt a little bit off. When I asked him about things and if we were ok, he said that all our relationship does is make him tired and frustrated, and that he asks himself constantly why he even bothers with our relationship anymore. He’s also been claiming that I dont listen but then when I ask for specifics about it he just circles back to that “I don’t listen”. He’s also been giving me a lot of general allegations of what I’m doing wrong but again no specifics even when asked directly. Supposedly he’s had three years of resentment that he decided to let out on me the last week. He’s also said that he feels that he doesn’t “wear the pants in the relationship” and that he’s “embarrassed that I hesitate when he pays for things in front of waiters”. I can keep going but the issue that led to this fight is when he brought up on Saturday that he wanted to talk about grad school since as of this month he doesn’t want to go to the same school as me but then yesterday says I’ve been brushing it off for months even though we’ve only talked about going to our current institution since we’ve been together. He keeps bringing up all of these things that happened a year ago, and it feels like the basis of this argument of why I’m a horrible person who doesn’t listen. It feels like this came out of no where like just this past weekend we were telling each other we loved each other and now he’s making me feel like I’m the worst person he’s ever met. This isn’t the first time he’s taken his problems out one me and I feel like out problems always spin back into me, and it just makes me so mad. I don’t know at this point what to do, so am I overreacting?

*just to clarify my friend is letting me use their account (I don’t have one) they thought that this would be a good place to share

🏠 roommate AIO for thinking my roommate is poisoning my food

I’ve been living at my roommates home for about two years. She’s a study abroad teacher that recently came home about a year ago. Ever since she came back I’ve been having non stop explosive diarrhea. Anytime I leave the house for an extended period of time my stomach fixes itself and I have regular bowel movements. I’m seriously thinking my roommate is poisoning my food. I wouldn’t think this but I recall the guy that left her (the reason she’s back in the states) accused her of making him sick. This has been going on for about a year now and I’m a little afraid. I plan to move out soon but can’t help to wonder if I’m overreacting. Not sure if I should go to the doctor to see what’s in my system or test the food that I leave in the house. I was literally ok staying at my bfs house. Just one night of being back at my roommates house and I already have the shits. Not sure what to do. Starting to feel crazy here.

Edit: came back from urgent care. Ran some tests. Doc says I’m fine. Will continue to do investigative work

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for possibly overreacting over messages on husbands phone

Let me preface this by saying I've had a gut feeling for awhile that something was up. I never brought it up for fear of an argument.

Within the past few days I snooped and went through my husbands apple watch while he was at work.

Found messages between him and a woman I thought was just his friend wherein they're both telling each other "i love you" in various different styles i.e. emojis and exaggerating spelling of the words, etc. At one point my husband talked about using some money he has to go stay with her, look for a job and care for her kids while she works. At one point he even mentions taking our minor child and going to live with her. That he has a "few loose ends to tie up" before he can go spend time with her and "love her up" they talk about seeing each other and how they cant wait to see each other again.

I immediately call him before I even make it through all the texts. He denies everything, doesn't know what I'm talking about and pretty sure calls me crazy. I hang up him cause I am fuming. He calls back I try to better explain what I read, how this is wrong and how ive previously mentioned if he didn't want to be in the home he didn't have to be. I hang up again because our child is in the next room and I was getting loud.

I've told him I want a divorce.

Since then I've reached out to the other woman in this situation she apologizes immensely, takes accountability for her actions, says she'll make it right and says that it was never physical beyond hugging. My husband did mention the same thing. The conversation with her all feels insincere, scripted and/or fake. Apparently this kind of conversation has been going on for at least 2 months.

TLDR: husband exchanged messages with another woman. I flipped out accordingly and asked for divorce.

AIO for majorly flipping out and wanting a divorce over messages and supposed only hugging?

👥 friendship AIO- Ex-friend wants to mend the relationship

Four months ago I broke up with a friend who was emotionally burning me out by asking for our kids to have playdates way too much, showing up unannounced, overstaying her welcome, and her kids behaved badly. I put up with it for too long because I felt bad for her. She was/is going through marriage and financial issues but every time we were together she would trauma dump on me for hours and I couldn't take it anymore.

I started setting strict boundaries with how much time and energy I was willing to give the relationship and she became more clingy and desperate so I broke it off after the final straw of her going into my home while my teenage son was alone and not leaving which made him uncomfortable.

I texted her and told her that I was upset, her ignoring boundaries was becoming a pattern, and I was going to step away from the relationship. I also told her to not come to my house without permission.

She never responded and now, four months later she finally apologized and wants to mend the friendship. I don't want to and I've felt such peace these four months without her in my life. I also think it's shitty for someone to wait four months to apologize and can't help but feel like she's just apologizing because she wants access to my home and kids again, not because she cares about the friendship.

I've ignored her for now but probably need to be clear with how I feel and tell her I don't want to mend the friendship. Plus, she doesn't take silence as a hint.. she becomes more determined. AIO for still being upset?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for thinking of ending a great relationship over bad driving?

For context, I (F23) have been dating “Jamie” (F25) for a few months now and I really like everything about her, except for the way she drives. Every time I’ve been in her passenger seat, it’s genuinely terrifying. She drives 30+ miles over the speed limit, tailgates everyone, and weaves around traffic with no blinker. If one other person on the road were to make a tiny mistake, it would result in a catastrophic accident. Whenever I bring up that her speeding and close following makes me nervous, she just laughs it off and says she’s only going at 10% of her usual speed because I’m in the car. Maybe I’m overreacting because I only drive in the slow lane and leave a ton of distance, but I’m genuinely scared for my life every time she drives us.

Recently, I was in the car with her and she was going really fast and weaving in between cars like usual, but she only had one hand on the wheel. I mentioned that it made me nervous how she’s driving like that with one hand, and she reached over and grabbed my hand saying “it’s so I can hold your hand at the same time!” At that moment, she was fully turned to face me while we were flying up to the car in front of us. I had to actually yell to stop and that she was scaring me. She apologized later but I felt really shitty that I had turned her attempt to be romantic into an uncomfortable situation.

I really like her and I feel like we have a great connection, but I don’t know if I can get over her driving. Am I overreacting? I feel like part of it is the driving, but part is her dismissal of my fear and discomfort.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO thinking my husband lied?

Background: it's time to register kiddos for school. My husband will be teaching this semester and needs access to the registration system not only for their class but also for our son

Husband: they finally got me into the system the day before I'm supposed to meet the parents

Me: so were you able to finish our sons registration?

Husband: no, they still haven't figured out how to fix that yet

Me: (observing his "I'm lying" eye flutter) At least they were able to get you access to what you need to do your job. Were they not able to get you access to our sons? Or was it one of those things or you just didn't have time to check?

Husband: I didn't have time to check

Me: (out loud) yeah, you're so busy that makes sense

Me: (In my head) why can't he just tell the truth? Our marriage would be in such a better place if he weren't constantly lying about so many things

I shared this with a "friend" who didn't think he was lying, and who wondered aloud if the things I complain about my husband doing (such as lying, him having an emotional affair) are real or just me overreacting

AIO?

Update: The emotional affair, as verified by a couples therapist, is how I discovered his lying tells (such as the eye flutter). I'm not in debate about that and I am making plans to leave once I'm ready. But when I told my friend about the registration issue and she thought maybe I was overreacting, it made me wonder if I'm preventing possible healing of the marriage. I just don't think the marriage can be healed if somebody's gonna keep lying about dumb stuff like this. And I put "friend"" because how can you be my friend if you think I'm making this stuff up?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for debating a dining etiquette rule I hadn’t heard of - during and after a meal

I recommended a small restaurant to my boyfriend for a date. I had previously tried another branch of the same restaurant around 7 pm (which he knew). I didn’t have to queue and I was the only customer there. I had assumed perhaps the restaurant offered light meals that were more popular for lunch than dinner.

When we arrived at this branch at 7 pm, there was a queue. I was surprised and said, “I didn’t expect a queue here.” I wasn’t even complaining about the wait. The restaurant was more popular than I had expected. My bf immediately told me that I was being rude.

I was genuinely confused because I had never heard saying this at a restaurant was considered rude. Once we were seated, I explained the context and my intention, and I kept asking him to clarify exactly what was rude about the comment and whether this was a general etiquette rule. We debated for about 5 minutes until he said “stop saying.” And I stopped.

After we left the restaurant, I still wasn’t sure whether I had actually done something socially inappropriate. I reiterated my intention and asked whether saying “I didn’t expect a queue” was inherently negative. He paused for a few seconds and said, “I don’t see anything positive in it. That sounds like the restaurant didn’t deserve a queue. Anyone who runs or works in a restaurant wouldn’t be happy hearing this.”

I disagreed. I said I would admit it if I had done something rude, but in this case I felt I needed to defend myself since my intention was neutral and I didn’t understand what etiquette rule I had supposedly broken. He gave a big sigh, and the conversation ended.

What I was thinking and feeling:

When he initially told me to “stop saying,” I thought he believed this was a commonly understood rule, and that my not knowing it was embarrassing him.

When I asked again after the meal, he paused before answering. I saw it as hesitation, meaning he wasn’t actually sure, and there was a gap between our understanding, which urged me to keep asking. If it were an obvious etiquette rule, I would’ve expected an instant reply. The big sigh at the end also made me feel I was actually being rude, overreacting and somewhat dismissed.

I still think I have to defend myself since I can’t get rid of the confusion, but I feel like I’d be overreacting if I brought this up to him again.

For context, he is kind to me and I don’t think he has any manipulative traits. He generally avoids arguments.

TLDR
- Is there actually a commonly recognised dining etiquette rule against saying “I didn’t expect a queue” at a restaurant?
- Was I overreacting by continuing to discuss/argue about a dining rule during and after the meal?
- Should I ever talk about this again - as an apology or defence?
- If someone said this at the entrance, would you normally see it as an offensive complaint, or simply as a neutral expression of surprise?

❤️‍🩹 relationship Am I overreacting or does my bf not care abt my feelings

Im not the best at this but i seriously need different perspectives. I am 18f and my bf is 21m. I just got off night shift and me and my bf call each other every night. Hes already home waiting for me to call him. I get done settling down and I call him. He likes to rage bait me all the time and usually i dont mind it but this time he thought itll be funny to pretend to not hear me. The first 2 minutes of him repeating my name and the word “hello” i responded to him. Then i went silent and he texted me that he couldnt hear me while on call to play into his part. But after a while i got tired of it. And i made sure i was audibly upset. So i hang up on him and he calls me back pretending like he actually could not hear me. He got all offensive and kept insisting he couldnt hear me and i had no reason to be upset. I told him im not stupid and if he really couldnt have heard me he wouldnt have dragged it on for so long. About 5 mins of us going back and forth he breaks character and starts laughing. Atp i am not amused and i let him know that. He starts getting pissed and try to play it off saying it was just a joke and im trying to explain to him that it made me upset. He goes on and says shit like “ill just be a boring fuck then” “might as well be a plank of wood and do nothing and say nothing”. Am I the sensitive one? Should i not have gotten upset?

❤️‍🩹 relationship Am I overreacting ? My M(23) Bf keeps trying to call me out when I client comes over F(26).

Hi, so I’m a personal trainer and one of my clients is a friend, she doesn’t stick to the diet I give her and when she comes over she will sometimes be say “your Gf worked me today because I ate 5 cookies at 10pm last night” (in a joking way). My Bf takes it upon his self to be like well yeah she had two donuts this week and he will be like.. “did you tell her what you had”…it’s like he is trying to put me on the spot. I will always look at him weird but say “yes I did, but I run 3 times a week workout 4 times and train clients twice a week” (all while on my cycle). How should I handle this ?

Side note: when I try to get him to go to the gym with me on Saturday it takes him 3hrs to get out the bed so I’m just waiting around in the morning for him to wake up

Edit: I have talked to my partner about this before he has done something similar with a family member and we talked about it then.. his response is he thinks it’s funny and he was just trying to joke around

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for blowing up and feeling disrespected by my mother over the shower?

This might sound stupid to complain about, and it did at first to me as well, but this is every single time. Before I shower (we only have 1 bathroom), I make it verbally clear that I am going to get in the shower. So that whoever has to use the toilet or brush their teeth can do so. My step father doesn't really care and says he's fine. My mother on the other hand will purposely wait until I am getting my towels to decide she has to brush her teeth and sit on the toilet for several minutes. Every single fucking time! The few times I've said something, she tells me to stop complaining because she will be out soon.

I've had it and just went off on how she does this every time and how I feel disrespected because I give warning and how it feels like she is giving me a big "fuck you. I will do what I want" type reply. And will anyone guess what she did after she got mad that I got mad? Fucking smiled and laughed about how "grumpy" I am. Still brushing off any actual feelings and what I voiced. Heck, if I did not move back to help her and my step dad, I would have a bathroom to myself! Not worry if some 69 year old decided that the moment i bring my bath stuff into the bathroom that she suddenly has to go. Is this some sort of control type shit she is trying to pull? Because she's done similar before. Or is she actually this much of a general ass regardless of how small and such this issue is?
